Frequently Asked Questions

If your pet has eaten something that may be toxic, please call us right away. You may also contact the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 for guidance. If poison control provides a case number, please share it with our team so we can coordinate the best care for your pet.

Yes. Losing a pet is incredibly difficult, and support is available. The Tufts Pet Loss Support Hotline can be reached at (508) 839-7966. Our team can also help connect you with additional grief support resources if needed.

If you suspect animal abuse, neglect, or cruelty, please contact your local animal control agency or law enforcement. Reporting concerns quickly can help protect pets and ensure the proper authorities can investigate.

If your pet is vomiting repeatedly, has diarrhea that isn't improving, stops eating, has trouble breathing, develops an eye injury, is limping, seems painful, or simply isn't acting like themselves, it's always worth giving us a call. We'd much rather answer your questions early than have you wait too long.

We understand that illnesses and injuries don't always happen on a schedule. Our team works hard to accommodate same-day sick appointments whenever possible. Please call us as early as possible so we can recommend the best next step.

Yes! We are always happy to welcome new patients to our practice. Whether you've recently moved to the area or are looking for a new veterinary team, we'd love to meet you and your pet.

Scheduling is easy. Call our hospital during business hours and our team will help you find the appointment that best fits your pet's needs, whether it's a wellness exam, vaccinations, a sick visit, surgery consultation, or technician appointment.

Difficulty urinating, straining, blood in the urine, or frequent attempts to urinate should always be taken seriously. These symptoms can indicate a urinary tract infection or, in some pets, especially male cats, a life-threatening urinary blockage. Please call us immediately if you notice these signs.

Yes. We can refill many medications and prescription diets for established patients. Calling or texting a little ahead of time allows our team to prepare your order and ensure everything is ready when you arrive. We also have a website widget to support your prescription refill requests any time, day or night.

Absolutely. Nail trims are one of our most popular grooming appointments. Our groomer will help make the experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible for your pet.

Every pet is different. Vaccination recommendations are based on your pet's age, health, lifestyle, and risk factors. During your visit, your veterinarian will create a personalized vaccine plan designed to provide the right protection for your pet.

Simply give us a call. We'll walk you through the process, answer your questions, schedule any necessary pre-surgical appointments, and provide detailed instructions to help you prepare for surgery day.

Yes. Follow-up appointments allow your veterinarian to monitor healing, remove sutures if needed, and ensure your pet is recovering as expected after surgery.

Of course. If your pet is visiting a specialist, emergency hospital, or another veterinary practice, we're happy to send their medical records. Just let our team know where they need to be sent.

Please bring your pet on a leash or in a secure carrier, along with any medications they're currently taking. If you're a new client, bringing previous medical records is helpful. If we've requested a stool or urine sample, bringing that to your visit can help us provide answers more quickly.

If you believe your pet is experiencing a medical emergency, call us immediately. Our team can help determine whether your pet should be seen right away at our hospital or if referral to an emergency veterinary hospital is the safest option. For after-hours emergencies, we encourage you to call Wake Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care located at: 1007 Tandal Place, Knightdale, NC, Phone: (919) 266-9852
